Washing machine not spinning solutions

Replacements can be expensive and that's why Go Assist is here to help, offering high-quality washing machine repairs saving you from any expensive repairs.
There can be a number of reasons why your washing machine is not spinning and it is fairly easy to diagnose them on your own.
The drum does not spin at the end of a cycle
Normally, the drum will spin during the rinse and wash cycles, but if it spins slowly or does not spin at all at the end of the cycle, it might be due to the following reasons:
- Overloaded drum: The drum is equipped with a safety mechanism that senses the load balance and then triggers the motor to spin. If you have heavy clothing items or a single piece of heavy fabric, it could have upset the balance of the machine, thus preventing the drum from spinning. Remove some heavier clothes to see if the machine starts spinning again.
- Water not draining: If the water is taking a long time to drain, the drum will not spin till all the water has been drained. On other occasions, the water may not drain at all. Check the drain hose for any obstructions and remove them. If there are no obstructions, the drain pump might be faulty and will need an inspection.
- The filter is blocked: Some washing machines are equipped with a filter. If this filter is blocked, the machine will not spin or spin slowly. Extract the filter, clean it, and put it back again. Check whether the drum spins or not.
- A fault in the pressure switch: The pressure switch is a switch that signals the drum to start spinning when it senses that the water has been drained from the drum. If the switch is blocked, it might malfunction, and cause the machine to ‘think’ that there is water in the drum, when in reality, there isn’t any. You can remove the switch, clean it, and try again. If it still does not work, you will need a replacement.
The drum does not spin at all
If your washing machine’s wash drum refuses to spin at all, regardless of whether it is in the wash, rinse, or spin cycle, then there is something that prevents it from rotating.
- Broken or loose drive belt: It might be that the drive belt has become loose or broken down. You can test this by trying to turn the drum using your hand; if you don’t encounter some resistance in doing so or if you hear a weird sound, the belt is at fault and will need to be replaced.
- Worn-out carbon brushes: The drum motor might be faulty and the carbon brushes could have become charred or worn out. Nevertheless, you will need to replace the motor.
