How to clean your BBQ this summer
4 steps to a clean BBQ
Summer is here, and with it comes countless BBQs with friends and family. After a day of enjoying the sun in the garden, scrubbing a filthy BBQ grill can be a real chore. We're here to help, with top tips to get those grills gleaming.
Step 1 - Scrape off the worst of the food residue. Do this whilst the grill is still hot as this is when the burnt-on food will be easiest to loosen.
Step 2 - Then once the grill has cooled enough, grab a bowl of washing-up liquid and hot water and place your grill in this solution and leave to soak for 10-15 minutes.
Step 3 - Once soaked, scrub away at your grill (ideally with a BBQ brush if you have one!). You should find that most of your residue is gone, and the grill will be back to looking shiny again.
Step 4 - Rinse, then dry immediately to prevent the grill from rusting.
But what if your BBQ is too big to be washed up in the kitchen sink? Well, here’s an alternative method to get your barbeque clean.
Burn it
It has been acknowledged by the FSA (Food Standards Agency) that you can simply burn off the food residue until it is completely charred, killing off any harmful bacteria that may be present. If you’re cooking with Gas, the best advice we have for this will be to burn up your BBQ to the highest possible setting after you’ve cooked and heat the grill for at least 15 mins.
If you’re grilling on a charcoal barbeque the best time to burn off any nasty bacteria will be the next time you light up the BBQ. Ensure that you have scraped off all burnt residue before you start cooking your next round of summer BBQ favourites.
